Genre: YA Contemporary Fiction
Release Date: September 28th 2017
Meet Sadie MacPhearson. She’s seventeen and lives in a ritzy, artsy beach town called Mariposa Beach, California. Blond, bootylicious and beautiful—she’s a main chick of the Pop Crowd: the most flawless looking, smartest, trendiest, richest, fabulous group of party animals at Mariposa Beach High School. She wants one thing, to keep her secret but it’s always lingering above her head. When the administrators want to assess her for a learning disability, she coats inhibitions and fears with alcohol, which, in turn, causes serious damage in her life, mostly her chameleon soul.
After struggling to blend in, senior year, Sadie finds herself without her dear grandmother, with disgusted parents, three hundred and sixty mandatory volunteer hours and AA meetings, no driver’s license or Jeep, zero friends, and cognitively low classes. Feeling like success is not an option with her learning disability, she sits behind building C next to an overweight, military loving, book nerd Jay Felix on the first day of senior year. He pushes her to be her best self. But even at her best, can Sadie overcome her learning disability, her struggles with alcohol and graduate from high school at the cutthroat Mariposa Beach High School or will the lure of the Pop Crowd take her down?

The Teenager with a Chameleon Soul Guest Post
What is a Chameleon Soul, and what are the benefits/problematic issues with it?
A Chameleon Soul is a soul that adapts with the changing of environments. The amphibians called chameleons change colors to provide camouflage, temperature regulation and a means of communicating with other chameleons. The chameleons’ colors change in response to excitement, stress, temperature, lighting conditions, and the presence of other chameleons and others. The main character’s personality, perception and persona of herself and the world around her changes from feeling ugly to beautiful inside and out, from feeling dumb to successful, from being mean to kind and from being popular to feeling social suicide. The problematic issues are the main character is flip-flopping through her life and the world around her, which to some people can be frustrating. Her life is pretty good and she takes advantage of it. However, the benefits of her flip-floppiness are she suffers for her mistakes and ends up solid gold.

"I start the engine to my Jeep and skid past them. I crank up the volume to The Rolling Stones favorites, knocking over a half-drank Java in the meantime, bobbing in and out of the cars on Pacific Coast Highway under the dark sky. It's exceptionally dark tonight. I search for the stars....I look behind me to see if my friends are chasing me....""Screw them!" I scream. "They are not my friends."
I feel a wave of nausea, which for some reason forces my foot on the gas pedal.....
