First Full Moon

Genre: YA Fantasy
Release Date: August 28th 2018

More secrets. More lies. I'm going to die.

She wanted a car for her sixteenth birthday, not magical powers… Candy McGregor is a teenager living in Sequim Falls, a small East Coast town, where the McGregors own just about everything. While her grandmother grooms her to run the family business—a pharmaceutical empire—Candy dreams of a life where she’s known as more than just a last name. When the monthly family dinner turns into a horror show, Candy discovers the McGregors aren’t so much blessed as they are cursed. At midnight on her sixteenth birthday, Candy inherits both the ability to do magic and the destiny to become a wolf on the next full moon. There is hope of a life that doesn’t require being chained up once a month. If Candy can undo the original spell that created the curse, she can rid the world of werewolves and remain a witch. But there’s one really big problem. Not everyone hates being a wolf. With the next full moon looming, Candy must take on forces that will do anything to stop her. Will she break the curse or surrender to life as a monster?

Interview with the Author Michelle Alstead

Welcome to Character Madness and Musings

Tell us a little bit about why you write in your chosen genre, and if you have books in other genres as well.

I’m a big fan of the teen genre. I’m heavily into the supernatural aspect of it. This is my third young adult supernatural novel.

What was the title of your first book, and what was/is it about?
After It’s Over is technically my first full-length novel. It’s set in my hometown and about a family that struggles with addiction and domestic issues.

Was it a series?
It’s the first book in the “After” series, which are all novels about second chances with first loves because sometimes we get it wrong the first time.

The first book seems to be the most difficult to get off the ground. What inspired you to write it?
I was inspired to write it by some very tragic events that took place in real life. After It’s Over is a call to action more than anything.

What is your most current book?
I’m currently working on “The Last Piece

Is it a series?
It is part of the “Bright Lights” series.

New books are so exciting. Do you have more stories planned or that you’ve been working on for the future?
Yes, I have two big white boards full of ideas.

Can you share a little bit about your main character’s, and what drives them?
In First Full Moon, Candy is very much driven by this idea that if she gets out from under the family curse, she can live a “normal” life. She belongs to a very big family with a lot of cousins but her “pack” really consists of her cousins: Larkin, Bennett, and Jasper. Each of which have their own personalities. They’re all working toward one common goal: break the curse but their reasons for doing so are different.

Some stories have strong themes. How important are themes in your writing? Is your theme based on the story, or are your stories birthed from a theme/or themes?
I think themes are what make stories meaningful. My stories all have themes. The theme of First Full Moon is really self acceptance.

Is the theme personal for you, or simply an important issue?
The theme is very personal for me. I believe the path to happiness comes through first accepting who we are versus trying to be what our family expects us to be.

What other stories have you written?
After It’s Over

Before It’s Done

After I’m Gone

One Last Try

The Gifted: Awakening Begun

The Gifted: Reborn

After Love Leaves
