Someone wants Sydney dead. Only problem is, she has no idea who. Pushing her off a cliff, thinking the deadly ocean waves will finish their dirty-work, was their first mistake. The near-death experience opens channels of uncontrollable magic, which Sydney is told should have remained dormant. As if finding out magic is real and hit-lists aren't enough, Sydney discovers her family lied to her. They were witches too. But they're all dead. And she's left to fend off the psychos after her blood with only Luke, her childhood crush turned steamy college student, on her side. Turns out being a witch isn't as awesome as you'd think, especially when your magic has fatal consequences.

As the world’s worst witch, Maddie is mistreated by her own kind. She was born a Defect. Most of her spells blow up in her face, literally. While witches search for the long-lost power of the earth, Maddie spends her time in the science lab. There, she discovers a clue to the lost power. The only other witness is Jax, a smokin’ hot college bad-boy, who Maddie can’t decide if she wants to kiss or kill.
When she fails her magic final, the council orders her magic stripped. Maddie’s only chance to keep her brain intact is to find the power with the hope that it can fix her. Jax is her one true ally on the journey. The two of them must use their smarts to stay ahead of the witches while they follow a two-hundred-year-old trail to the power of the earth and the truth behind Maddie’s defect.
Character Interview with Sydney.
The main character of Fatal MagicDo you have any siblings. Are you close to your parents?
I’m an only child, which I’ve recently learned isn’t unusual in the witch world. I was close to my parents but they died in a car accident when I was twelve. The only family I had left was my uncle Peter, who shipped me off to boarding school.
Do you have any pets?
They don’t’ allow pets at my school. But I so have a pet ant, sort of. But you’ll have to read the book to find out more about that.
Do you have any bad habits?
I do chew my nails when I get really upset, but I’m trying to stop. I also twirl my ring, which is better than sucking on pens if you ask me.
Do you exercise or are you a couch potato?
I love to be moving. I am on every sports team my school has. I was doing martial arts until last year and did earn my third degree black belt but decided to stop training to focus on my team sports. Diving and swimming are probably my favorites but I’m almost always up for a good run!
If you could go back in time for one day when would it be?
I’d go back and see my mom and dad one more time. I miss them every day. Plus, with all the questions I have for them it would be mice to know why they kept so many secrets form me.
What is your earliest memory?
I remember helping my mom in the garden. She loved to work in the dirt. Even though we had a whole crew of gardeners, she took care of her gardens. She was so patient as she showed me the different plants and let me dig the hole, which got all over me, then showed me how to rough up the roots and pat the plant in its new home.
Who is your best friend and how did you meet?
Rowan is my best friend. She’s way too serious about school sometimes, but she’s on a scholarship so…We met the first day I was sent to boarding school, she happened to be transferring in the dame day, and we hit it off immediately. I think she’s the only person in the world who really gets me. Besides Luke…
Is there anyone you you’re interested in at the moment?
I’ve known I wanted to marry Luke since I was like 6. But he’s oblivious. We were great friends until my parents died. I haven’t seen him since the funeral. I’ve dated a few guys at school but they couldn’t really hold my interest for long. Rowan says I don’t’ give anyone else a chance because they aren’t Luke. *shrug* I don’t know. I just figure I don’t have time to worry about guys right now.
