JULIAN by Anna Katmore -- A Brandy's Book Nook Review

Julian

by Anna Katmore

Genre: Paranormal
Release Date: December 2013

He was never a part of my plan…

Twelve years ago, when my mother chose her violent lover over me, my end of the deal was a room in an orphanage. Thank God, in six weeks, I’ll be eighteen and free!

Except, a certain stupid sweater in my backpack—okay, okay! I didn’t actually pay for it—lands me at court. And, look at that…my mother is back, too.

I want to keel over dead when the judge sentences me to time in France with her. Actually, I take that back, I want her to keel over dead! And then somebody says she has cancer. Wow, I’ve never had a wish fulfilled this fast. But until that happens—or I turn eighteen, whichever comes first—I’m required to work in some unknown family’s vineyards.
Yeah, right…

France, however, holds another surprise for me. Julian.
He doesn’t miss a chance to provoke me, and for some reason he seems to foresee each step of my brilliant escape plan. What the hell—?

But then he makes a tiny mistake. And suddenly, I’m confronted with a secret that makes my blood run cold.

Brandy's Review

⭐⭐⭐⭐

YA

JB's Bookworms with Brandy Mulder were given this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book is very much about family and forgiveness. Jona has some issues, and Julian is trying to help her but she is stubborn as all get out. Jona knows something is off about Julian, but can't figure out exactly what it is.

Julian is her mother's caretaker, but there is more to it than that. At first Jona thinks that Julian is her mother’s boyfriend, but that’s far from the truth. But why does he hover over Charlene that way? Jona hates her mother for abandoning her to the orphanage, and this causes some ugly moments.

The truth and romance with Julian doesn't start to pick up till around 75% through the book, so if you’re looking for romantic excitement this is not your book lol. That’s not to say that they don’t have some moments, but they are sweet more than romantic. No explicit content here, but there is a little nudity, mostly Julian shirtless :)

For all of its slower pace it is a good story. Jona has to decide if she can forgive her mother before the cancer takes her, and if she can accept the love her aunt and uncle want to give her. However, the cost of forgiveness may mean losing the love of her life. I was sniffling in the end.

About the Author

Anna Katmore grew up in Vienna – not by free will but because her parents decided to move there when she was only 4 years old. She hated the city, everything about it. So right after graduation, she moved back to the country side where she settled down with a nice husband and an awesome laptop. (The laptop came first!)

She’s been a storyteller all her life. Already in kindergarten, she came up with the most exotic fantasies and tales. Her teacher back then called her a liar. Today, Anna calls it the cornerstone of her writing career.

People always told her: you can’t make a living with being an author. After her first novella PLAY WITH ME came out and shot straight to the stars within the first week, she knew she could do anything if only she never stopped dreaming.

That’s also part of what she teaches her sutdents in writing workshops today. Always dream big! If your dreams don’t scare you, they aren’t big enough.
