Clarissa – Q & A
Interview with Jean Jacobsen, Author of Clean 19th-Century Historical Romance

Jean Jacobsen is an exciting new voice in the clean and wholesome historical romance genre. Her debut novel, Clarissa, has captured the hearts of readers with its strong heroine, roguish hero, and captivating storytelling set in 19th-century America. In this interview, Jean shares insights into her writing process, inspiration, and upcoming projects.

Q-What inspired you to write 19th-century American adventure tales?

A-   “Clarissa” popped into my head and wouldn’t leave me alone until I wrote her story. My   love of history and romance novels are a perfect fit.

Q-What is your writing process like?

A-   I usually start with an idea or a character, and then I do a lot of research. I read books, watch movies, and visit museums to get a sense of the time and place. Then I start drafting, and I revise and edit until I'm happy with the story. I try to write every day, even if it's just for a few minutes.

Q-Who is your favorite character that you've written, and why?

A-   That's a tough question! I have a soft spot for all my characters, but I think my favorite is probably Clarissa from my debut novel. She's a strong, independent woman who's not afraid to stand up for herself and what she believes in. Plus, she gets to go on some exciting adventures in the series!

Q-What do you think sets your books apart from other historical romances?

A-   I think what sets my books apart is the focus on adventure and action. I love a good romance as much as the next person, but I also want my readers to be on the edge of their seats, wondering what's going to happen next. I try to balance the romance with plenty of excitement and danger.

Q-What can readers expect from your upcoming books?

A-   The second book in the series, "Liam," is set in the Hudson River Valley near New York City, readers can follow the adventure of the missing brother from book one in the series, "Clarissa". Liam discovered a plot to divert funds from his family's holdings and escapes with ledgers and one-half of a treasure map. Battered and half-dead, Liam finds refuge in Erin's Inn. Together with the innkeeper, Erin, they hunt for treasure and find love in each other.
